Bluegrass mandolin is a type of stringed instrument that is a part of the bluegrass music tradition. The mandolin looks like a small guitar, but has a much higher pitch and a different shape than an ordinary guitar. It has a rounded body and four pairs of strings, which are tuned in pairs (G, D, A and E). The player uses a pick to pluck the string pairs to create their bluegrass music. Bluegrass mandolin is usually used as part of a band, often to provide a higher sounding lead instrument, and is a very versatile instrument.
