Boundary tracing (sometimes called contour tracing) is when a computer program looks at a picture and finds where the lines and shapes start and end. It's like if you were to trace the outline of a shape with your finger - the computer will look at the picture and trace the outline too. By doing this, the computer can tell which shape is which and how they should be grouped together. This is helpful when a computer is trying to identify objects in an image or figure out how to display the shapes properly on a page.
