A bow is a special kind of long stick with a string attached to both ends. It's designed to shoot arrows, which are pointy sticks with feathers on the end.
Using a bow involves a few steps. First, you have to hold the bow with your dominant hand, and pull back on the string with your other hand. When you pull the string back, it stretches the bow, kind of like a rubber band.
Once you have the string pulled back as far as you can, you can place an arrow on the bowstring. The arrow will rest on a little shelf on the bow called the "rest".
Then, when you're ready to shoot, you release the string. The bow snaps back to its original shape, and this sends the arrow flying forward.
Bows were used by people in the past as weapons for hunting and for war. Today, some people still use bows for hunting or for sport, like archery competitions.
