ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Branch theory

Well, imagine you have a family tree. It's like a map of your family where you can see who your parents are, who your grandparents are, who their parents were, and so on.

Now, in the church, some people believe that there isn't just one true church. Instead, they believe that there are different branches or groups that all have some truth, but none of them has all the truth.

So just like your family tree has different branches for your mom's side and your dad's side, some people believe that there are different branches of Christianity, each with some truth but not all of it. They might say that the Catholic Church is one branch, the Orthodox Church is another branch, and Protestant Churches are yet another branch.

But, not everyone agrees with the branch theory. Some people believe that there is only one true church or denomination, and that all other groups are wrong.

So it's like there are two different maps of the church - one with lots of branches and one with only one big tree.
