ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Brent's method

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes we need to find a solution to a problem, like how to share our candy equally with our friends? And sometimes we don't know the exact answer, but we can guess and get closer and closer until we find the right answer?

Well, that's kinda what Brent's method is all about! Brent's method helps us find the solution to an equation by guessing, checking, and getting closer until we find the answer.

Here's how it works:

1. We start by choosing two points on either side of the answer (kinda like choosing two friends to share our candy with).
2. We calculate the function values at these two points (or how much candy each friend gets in our example).
3. Using these function values, we make a guess for where the answer might be (like how much candy each friend should get to make it fair).
4. We then calculate the function value at this guess (or how much candy each friend will get with our new guess).
5. Based on these three function values, we can calculate the next guess for where the answer might be (like making another guess for how much candy each friend should get).
6. We keep repeating this process of guessing, calculating function values, and making more guesses until we get really close to the actual answer (until our friends are both happy with how much candy they got!).

So basically, Brent's method helps us find the answer to an equation by guessing and checking until we get really close. It's kind of like sharing candy with friends, but with math!
