Bridge scour

Bridge scour is when water around a bridge washes away the ground underneath the bridge. It can be caused by heavy currents or floods. When the ground washes away, it can make the bridge unsafe for cars or people to cross. To prevent bridge scour, engineers build a special kind of wall around the bridge called "scour protection", which helps to keep the ground from washing away.
