ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Brinkmanship

Brinkmanship is a way of telling another person you will do something if they don’t do something to make you happy. It is like a game of chicken. Both sides are waiting to see who will give in first. They each want the other to do what they want. It is usually used to get someone to do something they do not want to do. Imagine two kids arguing over a toy. One kid says they won’t play with the toy if the other kid doesn’t do what he or she wants. That is brinkmanship.
