Brit shalom (naming ceremony)

A brit shalom is a celebration that happens when a new baby is born. It is a ceremony where the baby is officially welcomed into their Jewish community.

In a brit shalom, the baby is given a Hebrew name which is very special because it is believed that the name will give the baby a strong connection to their Jewish roots.

During the ceremony, the baby is held by their parents, and some prayers are said by a rabbi or a close family member. There may be some special blessings given to the baby and their family.

A brit shalom is different from a circumcision ceremony, which is traditionally done for male babies on the eighth day after they are born. Instead, a brit shalom is a way for families who do not want to have a circumcision to still have a special ceremony to welcome their new baby into the Jewish community.
