Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, the British people went to a far-off land called Hong Kong. They stayed there for more than a hundred years and built a lot of things, like big buildings and roads and schools.
The British people who lived in Hong Kong were different from the Chinese people who lived there. They had a different language, different customs, and different food.
But then, one day, the British people had to leave Hong Kong because they had promised to give it back to China. It made the people who lived in Hong Kong feel sad, but they knew it was the right thing to do.
Before the British people left, they tried to help the people of Hong Kong by putting in place rules that would protect their rights and freedoms. They wanted to make sure that the people would still have the ability to vote, speak freely, and be safe.
And even though the British people left Hong Kong a long time ago, there are still many people there who speak English and keep some of the British customs alive.
