Bronchoscopy is a procedure where a doctor uses a special tool called a bronchoscope to look at your lungs. It's like a tiny camera with a long, thin tube that is about the size of a drinking straw.
First, the doctor will give you medicine to help you feel relaxed and sleepy. Then they will slide the bronchoscope through your mouth, down your throat and into your lungs.
As the doctor moves the bronchoscope around, the camera will show pictures of your airways on a screen. This helps the doctor see any problems, like inflammation, infection, or blockages.
Sometimes the doctor might take a small sample of tissue or fluid from your lungs with a tool on the end of the bronchoscope. This is called a biopsy and it helps the doctor figure out what might be causing the problem.
The whole procedure usually takes about 30-60 minutes, and you might feel a little bit sore or hoarse afterwards. But don't worry, the doctors and nurses will take good care of you and make sure you're comfortable throughout the process.
