Brownout (aeronautics)

A brownout occurs when the power or voltage to an aircraft's engines drops suddenly and unexpectedly. This can happen when the engines are running at a lower than normal speed. This can be dangerous for pilots flying the aircraft as the sudden drop in power can cause the aircraft to become difficult to control. Brownouts usually mean that the engines are not getting enough fuel or air and must be increased in order to maintain normal operation. Pilots must know how to recognize and respond to a brownout in order to remain safe.
