Bruise

When you bump or injure your body in some way, the area where it happened might turn all sorts of colors like purple, black, blue or green. This is what we call a "bruise". Inside our body, we have many little tiny blood vessels called "capillaries" that help to move blood around. When you get a bump or hit, these little blood vessels can break or leak some blood. This blood will spread out under your skin in a way that makes it look like a stain. Over time, your body will work to clean up the bruised area by moving the old blood out and sending in new blood to heal the area. That's why a bruise can look different over time and why it can take a little while to go away!
