ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Burning Chrome

Okay, little one, so burning chrome is not actually about setting fire to something made of metal. Chrome is a type of material that is often used to make things like car parts or bathroom fixtures shiny and pretty.

When people talk about burning chrome, they are actually referring to using a certain type of software called a web browser. The most popular web browsers are things like Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

When you use one of these web browsers to visit a website, the browser has to do a lot of work to make sure the website looks good on your computer or phone screen. This process is called rendering.

Sometimes, when a browser is rendering a website, it can get stuck and become unresponsive. This can happen for a lot of reasons, but the end result is that the browser is "burnt out" and needs to be closed and restarted.

So, when someone says they are burning chrome, they likely mean that their Chrome browser has become unresponsive and they need to close it and start over.

I hope that helps explain it!
