The business model canvas is like a piece of paper that helps people think about how their business works. It has nine boxes with different headings. Each box helps you think about and understand certain parts for your business.
The first box is labeled ‘customer segments’ and this is where you list all the people who will be customers of your business.
The second box is labeled ‘value propositions’ and this is where you list all the things you will offer your customers that will make them want to buy from you.
The third box is labeled ‘channels’ and this tells us how we will reach our customers.
The fourth box is labeled ‘customer relationships’ and this is where we list all the different ways we can build relationships with our customers.
The fifth box is labeled ‘revenue streams’ and this tells us how we will make money from our business.
The sixth box is labeled ‘key resources’ and this is where we list all the things we need to run our business such as staff, materials, technology and money.
The seventh box is labeled ‘key activities’ and this is where we list all the things we need to do in order to make our business successful.
The eighth box is labeled ‘key partners’ and this is where we list all the people or organizations we work with to make our business successful.
The ninth box is labeled ‘cost structure’ and this tells us how much it will cost to run our business and how much we need to make in order to be successful.
When all the boxes have been filled out, the business model canvas can help you understand how your business works and to think of ways to make it successful.
