ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

CGNS

CGNS stands for "Computational Fluid Dynamics General Notation System" and it is a way to store and share information about fluid dynamics problems.

Imagine you are playing with a group of friends and you all want to build a sandcastle. Each friend has their own unique ideas about what the sandcastle should look like, so you need a way to communicate and collaborate effectively.

CGNS is like a language that helps you do this. It gives you a structured way to describe the sandcastle, such as its size, shape, and type of sand, as well as instructions on how to build it.

Similarly, in fluid dynamics, CGNS provides a way to describe properties like temperature, pressure, and velocity, and how they change over time in a given region of space, like a wind tunnel or airplane wing.

Scientists and engineers can use this information to run simulations and predict how fluids will behave in different situations. It also makes it easier to share and compare data between different research groups and software programs.

So, just like having a common language helps you build a sandcastle with your friends, CGNS helps scientists and engineers communicate and collaborate effectively when working on fluid dynamics problems.
