CONSOL Energy Mine Map Preservation Project

Okay kiddo, so you know how there are places where grown-ups go to dig for things like coal or diamonds? Those places are called mines. Well, Consol Energy is a company that used to have a lot of mines, but they closed some of them down because they are no longer needed.

Now, when mines close, there are usually maps that show where all the tunnels and rooms are so that people can remember where they dug and where they found things. But, these maps are really important because they tell the story of how people used to mine and what they found. That's why Consol Energy decided to make sure the maps were saved forever.

So, the Consol Energy Mine Map Preservation Project is a special plan that they made to keep all those maps safe, so that people can study them in the future and learn from them. They are scanning the maps on computers and making sure they are stored in a special way so that they last a very, very long time. That way, people can still learn about how the mines worked and what they found, even if the mines are no longer there.

Isn't that cool? We can learn from the past by saving old maps!
