ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

CPT symmetry

So you know how there are different things in the world, like apples and bananas and cars and dogs? Well, scientists who study really tiny things like atoms and particles have found out that some of these things are the same but a little bit different.

One thing they noticed is that when they look at particles in a mirror, the particles look like they're backwards. It's kind of like when you look in a mirror and your right hand looks like your left hand. This is called "mirror symmetry."

Scientists realized that there's also something called "charge symmetry" where particles that have opposite charges (like positive and negative) are the same but a little bit different.

So now we have two types of symmetry: mirror symmetry and charge symmetry. But scientists decided to add one more type of symmetry called "time symmetry." This means that the way things happen in the past should be the same as the way things happen in the future.

All three of these symmetries together are called "CPT symmetry." Scientists use this to describe how really tiny things like particles behave. They study CPT symmetry to try and understand how the universe works!
