A CPU socket is like a plug that you put your computer's CPU (Central Processing Unit - the brain of your computer) into. It looks like a little metal plate or frame with lots of small, metal pins sticking up out of it. You place your computer's CPU on top of the socket and then the pins line up with the "holes" in the CPU. The pins and holes act like a lock and key, so that the CPU doesn't slip around or move, and the socket acts like the "wall socket" for your CPU so it can be connected to the other parts of your computer.
