ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Calandreta

Calandreta is a type of school in France where you can learn in two languages – French and Occitan. Occitan is a language that is spoken in some parts of France and other countries, and it sounds a bit different from French.

At calandretas, teachers use a special way of teaching so that kids can learn both languages at the same time. They might use fun songs, games, and activities to help you learn words in both French and Occitan.

Calandretas are also special because they want kids to learn about the culture of Occitan. This means learning about the history, traditions, and stories of the people who speak this language.

In a calandreta, you can have a lot of fun while you are learning! You will meet new friends who also want to learn French and Occitan, and you will get to do things like sing songs and play games. By the time you finish, you will be able to speak two languages and know more about different cultures!
