Calcareous grassland

Okay kiddo, let's talk about calcareous grasslands. These are special types of grasslands where the soil is rich in a type of rock called limestone, which is made of calcium carbonate.

Now, why is this important? Well, it turns out that the plants that grow on calcareous grasslands all really love this type of soil! They use the calcium carbonate to grow big and strong, which makes them really important for lots of different animals who live in these grasslands.

There are lots of different kinds of plants that can grow in calcareous grasslands, like wildflowers and different types of grasses. Some of these plants are very rare and can only be found in certain areas. And because calcareous grasslands are really important habitats for these plants and animals, we need to make sure to take care of them and protect them!
