Glass is made of long chains of molecules linked together. To figure out the properties of glass, we have to figure out the properties of the molecules in the chain. We look at different kinds of molecules in the chain, such as silicon and oxygen, and then look at their chemical and physical properties. We look at how they move and interact with each other. We also look at things like temperature and pressure to get an idea of how the molecules will behave when put together. We use all this information to calculate the properties of glass, like the strength, stiffness, and ability to let light through.
