ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

California Open Source Textbook Project

The California Open Source Textbook Project is a way for people to create and share books that anyone can access for free. It's like if you wanted to make a book about anything you wanted, and then let everyone read it without charging any money.

The Project is important because some people can't afford to buy big, expensive textbooks, but still need to learn things. By creating open source textbooks, anyone with an internet connection can access these books for free and learn without having to pay a lot of money.

People from all over can get together and share information about a certain topic, and then write a book about it. This book can be edited and updated by anyone who wants to help, so it can stay current and relevant over time. This way people can learn lots of new things, and help others learn too!

Everyone is welcome to contribute and make their own book, or help with a book that someone else has started. It's fun, easy and free!
