The Calvin-Benson Cycle is a process that plants use to turn sunlight into food. It is like a cycle because it starts at the same place it ends.
First, plants take in carbon dioxide from the air. Then, it combines the carbon dioxide with water and sunlight energy. This makes a special type of sugar called glucose (sugar food).
Next, the plant uses the glucose to make more complex molecules like amino acids and proteins. These molecules make up the plant so it can grow.
When the plant uses the glucose, the carbon dioxide it used goes back into the air.
This cycle continues over and over again as long as the plant has sunlight, water, and air. That is why this process is called the Calvin-Benson Cycle.
