Canaanite religion is an old way of believing and doing things that people who lived a long time ago in a place called Canaan practiced. Canaan is now the area where Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria are located.
The Canaanites worshiped many gods and goddesses, just like how people sometimes pray to different saints or deities in different religions today. The people believed that each god or goddess had a special power or job, like taking care of the harvest or the rain, or making sure people were healthy.
They would build special places called temples where they would go to pray and offer things like food or gifts to the gods and goddesses. They also had priests who were in charge of leading the prayers and making sure everything was done the right way.
One Canaanite goddess in particular was very important to the people. Her name was Asherah, and she was considered the mother of all gods and goddesses. People would often make special objects to honor her, like figurines or small statues.
Although Canaanite religion is not practiced anymore, some of its beliefs and traditions have influenced other religions that came after it, like Judaism and Christianity.
