ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Canadian Football League

The Canadian Football League is like the grown-up version of the game we play at recess, but with a few differences. First, they play on a bigger field that is about 30% larger than the one we play on. Second, there are only three downs, or chances, to get 10 yards instead of the four downs we have.

The teams are made up of lots of players, but only 12 are allowed on the field at once. There is a quarterback who throws the ball to his teammates, and there are players who try to catch the ball, run with it, or tackle their opponents.

Another big difference is that the goalposts are at the front of the end zone instead of the back, and if the ball goes through the uprights it's worth 3 points instead of 1 like in our game. If a team scores a touchdown, which is when a player runs into the end zone or catches a pass in the end zone, they get 6 points. They can also try to score another point by kicking the ball through the uprights, or they can try to run or pass the ball into the end zone for 2 points.

The teams play for a long time, usually about 3 hours, and the season lasts from June to November. There are nine teams in the league, and they play against each other to try to make it to the playoffs and hopefully win the big championship game called the Grey Cup.

So, basically, the Canadian Football League is a bigger and slightly different version of the game we love to play at recess, with more players, bigger fields, and some different rules.
