ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Canvas work

Canvas work is like making a big picture by sewing and stitching things on a special type of fabric called canvas. The canvas is like a blank white sheet of paper, but it’s thicker and has tiny holes all over it.

First, you need a design in your head or on paper. Then you get different types of thread or yarn, and special needles that are bigger than regular needles. You also need a big embroidery hoop that holds the canvas fabric tight so it doesn't move around.

Next, you start working on your canvas picture by sewing different colored threads through the holes in the canvas. You can use different kinds of stitches like the straight stitch, cross stitch, or even the zigzag stitch to make different parts of your image.

As you keep working, your picture will start to come to life! You can add more and more details with different colors and patterns, just like painting or drawing a picture.

When you're done with your canvas work, you can hang it on a wall like a painting or use it as a decorative piece in your home. Voila! Your very own canvas artwork.
