Capacitor plague

The capacitor plague was a problem that happened in computers in the late 1990s. Basically, many computer manufacturers used a type of capacitor called an electrolytic capacitor that were made cheaply and were not very reliable. Over time, these capacitors would stop working and cause computers to become unstable or even not work at all. This was a really big problem for people who had to use those computers, because it meant their computers wouldn't work and they had to buy new ones. The good news is that now computer manufacturers are using better capacitor designs that are much more reliable, so capacitor plague doesn't happen anymore.
