ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Capital murder

Okay kiddo, let me try to explain capital murder like you're 5 years old.

So you know how it's wrong to hurt or kill someone, right? Well, when someone does something really bad like that, they might have to go to jail for a really long time. But sometimes, they do something so, so bad that they could even be punished by death.

That's what capital murder is all about. It means that someone did something really, really bad and they might have to face the most serious punishment there is - the death penalty.

Now, not every state in the United States has the death penalty, and it's only used in very specific cases. For example, if someone intentionally kills a police officer, or if they kill more than one person at the same time, they might be charged with capital murder.

It's very, very serious, and it's important to remember that hurting or killing someone is never okay. But sometimes, the punishment has to be even more severe if the crime is really, really terrible.
