Capitulations of the Ottoman Empire

Okay kiddo, so a really long time ago there was a big empire called the Ottoman Empire. It was kind of like a really big family that ruled over lots of different places in the world.

Other countries wanted to trade with the Ottoman Empire, but the Sultan (kind of like the king of the Ottomans) had some rules that the trading countries didn't like. So they made a deal called a capitulation.

Basically, it was like making a list of rules that the Ottomans and the trading countries promised to follow. The trading countries would get benefits, like paying less taxes or being able to trade in certain places.

As time went on, the Ottomans started to have problems and they weren't as strong as they used to be. So they made more capitulations to try and keep the trading countries happy and to keep the money flowing.

But some people in the Ottoman Empire didn't like the capitulations. They thought it was like giving away their power and control. This made things kind of messy and complicated.

Eventually, the Ottoman Empire fell apart and the capitulations ended. But they were an important part of history because they helped shape the way countries traded with each other for a really long time.
