Castrametation

So, remember when we played pretend with toy soldiers and made a little fort for them with rocks and sticks? That's kind of like castrametation, but for real soldiers a long, long time ago.

Castrametation is when soldiers set up their camp and make it efficient and safe for them to live in while they're away from home. They make sure the camp has everything they need like a place to sleep, eat, and cook food.

They also make sure the camp is protected by building walls or using natural barriers like hills and trees. They set up guards to make sure no one sneaks in and surprise attacks them while they're sleeping.

They even set up a special spot to use the bathroom away from the sleeping and eating areas so it stays clean and healthy.

Castrametation is like building a little town for the soldiers to live in, but it's only for a little while and they have to pack it all up and move on when it's time to go fight or go home.
