ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Cathodic modification

Okay, so you know how when you eat candy your teeth can get all yucky and possibly get holes in them? This is because sugar makes little tiny bad germs grow in your mouth that attack your teeth.

Now, imagine that your teeth are like metal and these bad germs are like something called "corrosion" that can make the metal weaker and rust.

To stop this from happening, we can use something called cathodic modification. It's like putting a special coating on your teeth to protect them from the bad germs.

In metals, we use cathodic modification to protect them from corrosion too. It's like coating the metal with a special layer of material that keeps the bad things that make the metal weaker and rust away.

This way, the metal can stay strong and last longer without getting all yucky like our teeth when we eat too much candy.
