ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Celibacy

Okay kiddo, let me explain celibacy to you like you’re 5 years old.

Celibacy is when someone chooses not to have sex with another person. It’s like saying no thank you to something you don’t want. Sometimes people choose celibacy as a way to honor their religious beliefs, or they may just not be interested in having sex yet or maybe ever.

Think of it like this: You know how sometimes you don't want to eat the food that's in front of you even though it might be really yummy? Maybe you don't want to eat that cake because you're afraid it'll make you sick or just because you don't like the taste. Well, celibacy is like that, but with something else, not cake. It's someone saying no to sex because maybe they don't feel well, are too young, or just don't want to eat the cake right now.

That’s all celibacy means, saying no to sex for whatever reason someone might have. It’s perfectly okay for someone to choose celibacy if that’s what they want for themselves.
