Cellulosic ethanol is a kind of fuel made from a substance that comes from plants called cellulose. When you eat vegetables or fruits, your body breaks down their cellulose to give you energy.
Similarly, scientists have discovered a way to break down cellulose from plants like corn, wheat, and grass, and turn it into a kind of alcohol we can use in cars instead of gasoline. This alcohol is called ethanol.
Cellulosic ethanol is special because it comes from materials that we don't eat, like the stalks of corn or the leaves of the wheat plant. These are called "waste" products because we usually throw them away. But with cellulosic ethanol, we can turn these waste products into fuel, which is good for the environment because it means we rely less on nonrenewable resources like oil.
It's kind of like recycling--instead of throwing things away, we can use them to make something useful. So, we can think of cellulosic ethanol as a more eco-friendly way to power cars!
