Central American Seaway

Okay kiddo, so you know how we live on land, right? And we can go from one place to another on roads or paths, or even by flying in a plane or riding in a boat, right?

Well, a very long time ago, millions of years ago, the land where some countries in Central America are now was surrounded by water. So boats and ships could travel through that water and go from one place to another.

This was called the Central American Seaway. It was like a big water highway that connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean through Central America.

But over time, the land started rising up and joining together, and the waterway disappeared. So now, if we want to go from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, we have to go all the way around South America or take a small boat through the Panama Canal.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
