Central Powers intervened in the Russian Civil War because they wanted to take advantage of the chaos and turbulence in the country. They saw the Russian Civil War as an opportunity to expand their own political and economic power. The Central Powers were a group of countries that included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire. They sent troops, weapons and weapons technology to help the "White" forces—those who were trying to restore the old, Tsarist monarchy and put down the "Red" forces—a coalition of anarchists, communists, and other leftists that wanted to establish a new government. The Central Powers eventually helped the White forces defeat the Reds and bring the country under a new government, which was closely allied to the Central Powers (the Soviet Union).
