Centralization (phonetics)

Phonetics is how our voices sound when we make different sounds. Centralization is a type of phonetic change that happens when a sound moves closer to the center of our mouth. This can happen when two sounds in a word turn into one sound. For example, when you say the word ‘lid’, the two sounds ‘l’ and ‘d’ are close together and almost become one sound. This sound change is called centralization.
