Centre for Lexicography

A centre for lexicography is a place where people work to create and improve dictionaries. Do you know what a dictionary is? It is a book or a website that has a lot of words with their meanings.

Now, imagine you want to create a new word like ‘robotty’. It means a robot that is very chatty. How do you think people will know what this word means? That's where the centre for lexicography comes in.

The people who work in a centre for lexicography, known as lexicographers, are experts in making dictionaries. They research words, their meanings, and how they are used. They also write the definitions, and sometimes they even have to decide if a word is real or not.

They use many sources of information like books, magazines, newspapers, websites, and even social media to find new words or new meanings of existing words. Sounds cool, right?

So, if you ever want to create a new word, remember that it is the job of the people in a centre for lexicography to help your word become a part of our language.
