Chalcis Decree

Imagine you have some toys, and you want to play with them but your friend keeps taking them away from you. That's not fair, right? That's kind of like what happened a long time ago in Greece, but instead of toys, it was land.

One big city, called Athens, thought it was unfair that another city, called Chalcis, was taking land that didn't belong to it. So, Athens made a decree, which is like a rule, that said Chalcis had to stop taking the land and give it back to the people who it really belonged to.

The decree was written down on a big stone slab and put in a public place for everyone to see. That way, if anyone ever wanted to take the land again, they would know that Athens was serious about protecting it.

Basically, the Chalcis Decree was a rule that Athens made to protect its land from another city that was trying to take it.
