ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Change order

Okay kiddo, imagine you're playing with blocks and you're building a tower. You start with one block, then add another and another, until your tower is really tall! But wait, now you want to change the tower, maybe add a block to the bottom or take away one from the top. That's kind of like what a change order is.

A change order happens when someone decides they want to make changes to something that was already planned or started. So let's say your parents are building a house and they have a plan for what it will look like, but then they decide they want to make the windows bigger, or add another room. They would need to create a change order to make those changes.

The change order is a written document that explains what changes need to be made and why. It's like a list that tells everyone involved in the project what the new plan is. It's important to have a change order because it helps everyone stay on the same page and avoid confusion.

But here's the thing, kiddo. Change orders can sometimes be a little tricky because they can affect a lot of different things, like the cost of the project or how long it will take to finish. Just like how adding a block to the bottom of your tower might make it taller but also less stable.

So, when someone wants to make a change, it's important to think about how it will affect everything else and make sure everyone agrees on the new plan. And that's why we have change orders, to help us all work together to create something great!
