Charles de Foucauld was a man who lived a long time ago. He lived in a place called France and was born in the year 1858. He was a soldier when he was young, but later on he changed his life completely and became a monk. He wanted to live like Jesus Christ did, and he wanted to help people in need.
Charles de Foucauld went to Africa, which is a very different place from France. In Africa, he lived with a group of people who were called Tuaregs. Tuaregs lived in the desert and were very poor. Charles de Foucauld wanted to help them, so he learned their language and lived with them. He built a little house and stayed there.
Charles de Foucauld wanted to teach the Tuaregs about God, but he knew that he had to be careful. He didn't want to push his beliefs on them. So instead of talking to them about God, he showed them how to be nice to each other. He would help them do things like build a well, which they needed to get water. He would show them how to take care of their animals, which were very important to them. He taught them how to read and write, too.
Charles de Foucauld lived with the Tuaregs for a long time. He loved them very much, and they loved him, too. He wanted to stay with them forever, but one day, some men came and killed him. Charles de Foucauld died in 1916, but people still remember him today. They remember him as a very kind man who wanted to help others, and who loved God very much.
