Chart datum

Hi there little one! So, let's talk about something called chart datum.

Imagine you are at the beach, and you love to play in the water. Sometimes when you are playing in the water, the water level changes. You might be able to stand in the water one time, but later the water might be deeper and you can't touch the bottom with your feet anymore.

Chart datum is like a special measurement people use so that they know how high or how low the water level is at different times. It's like a special sign on a boardwalk that tells you how high the water will get during a high tide. It's important for people who make maps or charts to know the chart datum because it tells them where objects like rocks, islands or lighthouses are in relation to the water.

Just like how you measure your height in feet or centimeters, professionals use some special tools and measurements to measure chart datum. But basically, chart datum is just a fancy way of saying "how high or low the water is at a certain time where all the charts and maps are based on".

Hope that helps you understand the concept of chart datum better!
