Chatelaine (chain)

Do you know what a keychain is? You put your keys on it so you don't lose them. Well, a chatelaine is like that but for fancy ladies a long time ago! They didn't have pockets in their dresses, so they wore a chain with little hooks on it around their waist. They could hang all kinds of things from it like their house key, sewing scissors, and even a small purse for money. The chain was very useful and made them look very fancy and important!
