ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chemical thermodynamics

Chemical thermodynamics is the study of how energy interacts with chemical reactions. Energy can be released or absorbed when chemicals change into different things. When energy is released, it warms up the area around it and when it is absorbed, it cools down the area around it. Chemists use chemical thermodynamics to help predict what will happen when two or more chemicals interact, such as in a reaction. They use special equations which show how much energy is released or absorbed.
