ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Child psychiatry

Child psychiatry is like going to a special doctor who helps kids who may feel sad, angry, worried, or have other uncomfortable feelings that they don't know how to handle.

Just like how you go to a doctor when you have a sore throat or a tummy ache, you can go to a child psychiatrist when you have a problem that makes you feel upset or confused.

The child psychiatrist will talk to you and ask you questions about how you're feeling and what might be causing those feelings. They might also talk to your parents or guardians to get a better idea of what's going on.

The child psychiatrist will use what they learn to help you find ways to feel better and cope with your feelings. They might teach you skills like deep breathing or mindfulness to help you calm down when you're upset, or they might suggest talking to a therapist to help you work through deeper issues.

It's important to remember that going to a child psychiatrist doesn't mean that there's anything "wrong" with you. It just means that you could use some extra help and support to feel your best.
