China–Holy See relations

China–Holy See relations refer to the relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Holy See (which is the central government of the Catholic Church). The relationship between the two has been complicated for a long time, since the Chinese government does not agree with the Catholic Church's beliefs. Over the years, Chinese leaders and the Popes have tried to work together to find common ground. Recently, the two sides have signed an agreement to recognize each other’s existence and their right to pursue their respective religious activities. This agreement is seen as an important step towards improving the relationship between China and the Catholic Church.
