Chinese Immigration Act of 1885

Alright kiddo, let's talk about the Chinese Immigration Act of 1885.

You know how people in China might want to come to Canada for a better life or to visit their family? Well, back in 1885, the Canadian government made a law that made it very difficult for Chinese people to come here.

The law said that Chinese people had to pay a lot of money to come to Canada, but other people from different countries didn't have to pay as much. It was like a special tax just for Chinese people.

This made it really hard for Chinese people to come to Canada, and for those who did manage to come, they weren't treated very nicely. They were often discriminated against and had a hard time finding work or a place to live.

It wasn't until many years later, in 1947, that the Canadian government finally got rid of this unfair law. But it was a really sad and unfair time in our history, and we should remember it so that we can make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
