Chinese academic dress

You know how sometimes you have to wear a special outfit to go to a fancy event or party? Well, students and teachers in China also sometimes wear special outfits called academic dress for really important events!

For students, academic dress usually looks like a long dark cape that covers their shoulders and fastens at the neck with a black ribbon or stud. Underneath the cape, they wear a suit or dress, and sometimes they also wear a hat.

For teachers, academic dress is a bit fancier. They wear a robe with different colors and designs to show what kind of teacher they are or what subject they teach. They also wear a special hat called a mortarboard, which looks like a square flat hat with a tassel on top.

Wearing academic dress is a way to show respect for education and academic achievement. In China, you might see students and teachers wearing academic dress at graduation ceremonies, important meetings, or academic events like lectures or conferences.
