ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Chinese characters

Hey kiddo! So do you know when you see some people writing and it's not letters like we use in English? Those are called Chinese characters!

Chinese characters are kind of like tiny little pictures that represent different ideas or things. So when you look at a Chinese character, you can often tell what it means just by looking at it!

There are thousands and thousands of Chinese characters, and people in China use them instead of letters to write words.

Some characters are made up of a bunch of little lines and shapes, while others are more simple and just have one or two shapes. But all of them are special and help Chinese people communicate in their own language!

Pretty cool, huh?
