Do you know how sometimes you hear a computer talking in a very robotic voice? Well, that's called speech synthesis. In China, they want to make robots and computers talk like regular people, in the Chinese language.
There are a lot of different sounds in Chinese that a computer needs to learn to make. Imagine if you had to learn to make all the right sounds in Chinese, like "zh," "ch," and "sh." It can be tough! But that's what the computer needs to learn to do.
They also need to make sure everything they're saying makes sense. Sometimes, computers can mix up words or say things in the wrong order because they don't understand how to speak like people do.
But with lots of hard work and testing, Chinese speech synthesis is getting better and better! Eventually, robots and computers might be able to talk just like we do!
