Chiwen

Okay kiddo, so a chiwen is a fancy decoration that you might see on the roofs of really important buildings, like temples or palaces. It usually looks like a little dragon or another imaginary animal with sharp claws and a big mouth.

But why do people put chiwens on these buildings? Well, back in the olden days in China, people believed that these creatures could protect them from harm. So, by putting chiwens on the roof, it was believed that they could protect the building and everyone inside from bad luck or disasters.

Some people also believed that chiwens could help bring rain during times of drought. That's because they were said to be able to fly up to the heavens and bring water down to earth. So, if a place was in need of rain, people might put a chiwen on the roof to ask for its help.

Nowadays, people might still put chiwens on the roof of important buildings, but mostly just as a symbol of tradition and history. They're still really cool to look at though!
